Blog post:  Blogger "Antietam Ranger" considers the use of alcohol among soldiers during the Civil War in "Whiskey Courage in Abundance."

In conclusion,  the author states that alcohol was most likely available during Antietam's bloodiest one-day battle in American history, reflecting society's values of the period.  However, this might be understandable given the horror and devastation that was present that day.
